Disaster preparedness is actually simple and subtle.
Paul Purcell has laid it all out for you in step-by-step fashion in the only complete guide available anywhere.
True emergency readiness is all about the confidence you gain from being more self-reliant. It's not about fear, it's not about expensive equipment, and it's not about changing your lifestyle. It's about learning to recognize the solutions and assets that surround us on a daily basis.
This manual sets a new standard in family emergency readiness by providing both a step-by-step education as well as a quick reference for protecting your loved ones against anything from the likes of Hurricane Katrina through Swine Flu.
It covers everything from natural disaster through terrorism and terrorist attack, including biological, chemical, or nuclear incidents, as well as a host of others.
Not only teaching you about the threat, Disaster Prep 101 focus on the thousands of simple solutions that surround us every day.
This book is highly useful for everyone including the average family, first responders, emergency management, government, and those involved in business continuity planning.

Your washing machine can help you in either a house fire or a hurricane?
Your oven can help you in a wildfire?
Your clothes dryer can help you in an EMP (Electro-Magnetic Pulse) attack or tornado?
Your camera phone has multiple emergency uses?
A "baby monitor" can drastically increase your home's fire protection?
That virtually every city has a cheap and plentiful supply of potential storm cellars?
That there are roughly 26 criteria points for choosing an evacuation destination?
That your tornado-damaged automobile still has about a half-dozen emergency uses?
You can make an expedient "air conditioner" using two-liter plastic bottles?
Why stocking your regular food is more important that stocking "survival food?"
Why you DON'T need to buy all that expensive "survival" gear?
That you could fill hundreds of pages with questions like these? (And Disaster Prep 101 did!)

About the Author: Paul Purcell is an Atlanta-based security analyst and preparedness consultant with over 20 years risk management and investigative experience. Having grown up in a military family that at one time lived overseas, Paul Purcell grew up with preparedness being a generally accepted fact of life. He went through two earthquakes in Turkey, a couple of hurricanes in Florida, a severe ice storm in North Carolina, a HazMat incident in south Georgia, and an F-4 tornado and a blizzard in Atlanta, Georgia. As a post-9/11 contribution, Paul voluntarily submitted numerous vulnerability studies concerning the FAA, the CDC, the 2001 World Series Games, the 2002 Winter Olympics, and the 2002 Super Bowl. Copies of these studies were shared with an agent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and two weeks later, Paul was invited to join the DeKalb County Office of Homeland Security as a volunteer civilian security analyst. His duties included vulnerability studies of some of the county's sensitive infrastructure locations, the contribution of terror attack scenarios, and meeting attendance as a panel member at large.
