Sometimes numbers and figures can seem so far away and hard to grasp. Especially when we start talking about the billions and billions of dollars spent each year by our Federal government. When it's actually laid out on paper, the relative size of different departments budgets can be quite surprising.
Visualizing President Obama's proposed budget for 2016, each department and major expense item is represented with proportionally sized circles so the viewer can understand how big they are in comparison to the rest of the budget. For the Fiscal Year 2016 budget, this poster contains over 500 departments, agencies, programs and just about everything else the government can spend money on. It is still the single most open and accessible record of government spending ever created. All in six square feet.
